Claims That Lee Not Racist Unfounded

“The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The...discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race...How long their subjugation may be necessary is known...by a wise...Providence.” -Robert E. Lee, Confederate Army Commander, 1856

The Civil War to maintain and expand slavery would not start until 5 years later but Robert E. Lee, honored today by Federal, state and local governments, was clear and succinct about his racism and his defense of African slavery.  Confederate defenders claim that other issues fueled the most deadly conflict in American history.

America must finally end the Civil War and repudiate racism.  #UniteAmerica  #EndTheConfederacy
